The Keith Wold Johnson Child Care Center, established in 1983, is a year-around learning center designed to provide loving care with education for the young children of Hackensack Meridian Health employees and the community. The Center provides educational and recreational programs for growing children six weeks through kindergarten. The Center is unique among other programs in the vicinity because of its hospital affiliation. Our New Jersey state-certified teachers work along carefully selected, experienced teaching assistants in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The Center’s philosophy of education is based on the importance of the total development of each child.

Educational Programs

Infants & Toddlers

Each day, the children explore the environment around them through sensory motor activities that help them build trust and feel secure in their surroundings. The goal of the program is to nurture each individual child and learn to attend to his/her care in a personal and positive atmosphere.

Preschool & Prekindergarten

“The Land of the Letter People”

Here we incorporate a flexible, fun-filled core literacy program that stimulates children and promotes oral language and early literacy.

Kindergarten (Full Day Program):

“Progress in Mathematics”

The Sadler-Oxford program is a complete basic mathematics program. It combines the best of past educational methods with the most up-to-date approach to meet mathematical needs of all children.

“Beginning to Read, Write & Listen”

The phonics-based comprehensive reading-language arts program contains and correlates reading, handwriting, auditory and oral language skills for beginning readers. It provides children with a thorough understanding of the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, the most basic elements of our spoken and written language.

Patient Room Service

JFK Medical Center is pleased to offer our Bedside Bistro hotel-style room service for patient meals. Upon admission, a Food Service Host will orient you with our meal service program and provide you with a room service menu.

To order your meal, see your Room Service Host or dial 6MEAL (66325) on your room phone between the hours of 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Meals are delivered within 45 minutes. Some patients are placed on specialized diets by their physician to minimize adverse reactions associated with their medical conditions. These patients may find there are restrictions on their meal selections.

Family members or designees may place meal orders for patients by calling 732-321-7000 ext. 66325 from home. For patients who are unable to participate in the patient room service program and do not have a family representative available to assist them, meal selections will be made by Food & Nutrition Services.

Our Menus

On-Campus Dining

Au Bon Pain Café Bakery offers a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. Located off the main lobby of the Medical Center, Au Bon Pain Café Bakery is open 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

The JFK Gift Shop is operated by The Auxiliary of the JFK Medical Center Foundation. All proceeds from the Gift Shop go to supporting patient care needs at JFK. The Gift Shop offers an array of unique and seasonal items, including magazines, books, newspapers, candy, snacks, toiletries, fresh flower arrangements, jewelry, toys and gifts of all kinds.

To order a gift for a patient in the hospital, call the Gift Shop during business hours. Friends and family of new moms should ask the Gift Shop about gifts for newborns and children. We have layettes, stuffed animals, and decorations to announce the new arrival.

*Note: The Critical Care and Intensive Care Units do not allow fresh flowers or food items in the patient rooms for safety reasons. The Gift Shop will not be able to make deliveries to these rooms.

We at JFK recognize the importance of the integration of health care for the whole person – physical, emotional, and spiritual. Turn to the Pastoral Care Department for emotional, spiritual, and religious support, including:

  • Listening and helping you sort through your feelings and concerns regarding your present hospitalization.
  • Working with all faith traditions and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Providing assistance in contacting your own religious leader.
  • Requesting religious resources, such as prayer books, rituals, sacraments, and (for patients of Roman Catholic faith) daily communion.

To contact a chaplain for all faiths, a priest, a rabbi, or other clergy, ask the nurse assigned to your care to page the Chaplain-on-Call or call the Pastoral Care office at 732-321-7512.

A “Place of Prayer” For All Faiths

The Medical Center’s Place of Prayer creates a sacred, welcoming environment for individuals of all faiths. It embraces diversity by inviting people of all backgrounds to meditate and reflect during times of personal stress, loss, and joy. The Place of Prayer is open 24-hours, seven days per week and is located on the second floor of the Medial Center.

For your convenience, some Place of Prayer services can be viewed on channel 27. Information on services is posted on the bulletin board outside the Place of Prayer entrance, second floor.

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at JFK

The Pastoral Care Department at JFK offers a Clinical Pastoral Education program. Apply now for the Summer and Extended unit.

Curriculum Components Include:

  •  Introduction to the Medical Center and pastoral caring
  • Patient care and on-call coverage
  • Verbatim seminars with theological reflection
  • Interpersonal relations seminars and team building
  • Didactic seminars on hospital and pastoral care issues
  • Individual supervision with Rev. Annari Griesel, Ph.D.
