Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute
Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute’s Neurologic Physical Therapy (PT) Residency is 16 months long and offers licensed physical therapists an opportunity to enhance their foundational knowledge and clinical skills to develop into a specialist clinician in the field of neurology. Our on-site clinical program is 13 months long and provides the highest quality of one-to-one mentorship and clinical training through hands-on and observational experiences facilitated by our skilled physical therapist faculty who are experts in neurologic PT care including current ABPTS board certified neurological clinical specialists.We have partnered with the Neurologic Physical Therapy Professional Education Consortium to provide our residents with an extensive didactic curriculum through primarily remote learning.
The residency offers a comprehensive learning experience in a variety of settings such as acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, subacute rehabilitation and outpatient rehabilitation with opportunities to gain experience treating patients with a variety of neurological diagnoses including:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
- Spinal cord dysfunction
- Parkinson's disease
Residents will also have unique opportunities for interprofessional collaborations and to observe and participate in specialized programs offered throughout the continuum, including but not limited to:
- Parkinson's Rock Steady Boxing
- Love Your Brain Yoga
- Prosthetic & Orthotic Clinic
- Balance Clinic
- Spasticity Clinic
Teaching, community service and professional leadership opportunities are also an integral part of the program.
Our program will prepare residents to pursue American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification in neurologic physical therapy.
