K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center Nephrology Chief Travels to Train in Ecuador
Guillermo Hidalgo, M.D., teaches pediatricians treating kidney disease with Saving Young Lives

Guillermo Hidalgo, M.D., FASN, international expert on kidney disease and division chief of pediatric nephrology at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, latest travels include an October trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he served as a teacher and trainer of nephrologist, pediatric surgeons and pediatricians treating children with acute kidney injury.
Dr. Hidalgo has been working with the Saving Young Lives (SYL) organization in recent years as a physician lecturer and trainer of pediatric kidney specialists treating patients throughout Latin America and in Asia. In addition to training in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Hidalgo has traveled to Bogotá, Colombia, and Singapore to speak about the latest treatments for acute kidney injury (AKI) and train physicians to treat the condition. The program in Colombia was the first of its kind held in the country.
He also was recently elected to be the treasurer of the executive board of SYL, a collaborative international organization that advocates for AKI care in low-resourced areas of the world. In his role with SYL, Dr. Hidalgo shares knowledge of the needs for resource allocation in areas around the world.
