Frequently Asked Questions

Newly Expanded Emergency Department

Newly expanded emergency department treatment area

Palisades Medical Center has opened a newly redesigned emergency department to improve emergency care for patients featuring:

  • Two modern triage rooms for faster initial medical evaluations
  • Eight new private treatment rooms
  • Fifteen flexible treatment spaces arranged in a design called “flower pods”

This updated space is the first phase of a $50 million investment focused on improving emergency services. The goal is to support better patient flow, reduce wait times, and create a more comfortable environment for patients and families seeking emergency care.

Key Features of the New Emergency Department Design

More Personal Space
The semi-enclosed pods have curved walls that help reduce noise. This creates a quieter and more private setting for patients and their families during emergency visits.

Faster Access to Care
The treatment pods are grouped into small clusters with nearby support areas. This reduces the distance nurses and medical staff need to walk, helping them reach patients more quickly.

A Calmer Environment
Medical equipment such as oxygen and monitors is built into the walls and kept out of direct view. This helps the space feel less clinical and may reduce anxiety for patients.

Fast Track Unit for Minor Conditions
Patients with less serious medical concerns can be treated in the new Fast Track Unit. Convertible stretchers are used to help improve comfort and efficiency for both patients and staff.

What’s Next

This project is part of a larger expansion plan. Future phases will include secure and dedicated treatment areas for pediatric patients and individuals receiving behavioral health care. When completed in late 2026, the emergency department will double in size to 22,000 square feet and expand to 50 treatment positions.

This investment supports Palisades Medical Center’s continued commitment to providing high-quality emergency care in North Bergen, NJ and surrounding New Jersey communities.
