Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center held its second annual Resident Graduation Ceremony June 17 on the medical center campus in Brick, NJ.

The 2021-2022 class of 35 residents included: eight Family Medicine, five General Psychiatry, eight Internal Medicine, twelve Transitional Year and two first-year Pharmacy resident graduates. This ceremony also marked the inaugural graduation for the internal medicine, transitional year, general psychiatry and pharmacy residency programs.

“It’s a privilege for me to be among these exceptional individuals who have successfully navigated unprecedented times to provide our patients with outstanding care,” said David S. Kountz, M.D., MBA, MACP, vice president, Academic Affairs, Jersey Shore University Medical Center and co-chief academic officer, Hackensack Meridian Health. “No doubt they will be successful in their medical careers.”

In 2018, OUMC established its inaugural residency program and to date, the program has grown to 90 residents in a growing clinical academic program. On July 1, the program will increase to 120 residents including four fellows in Sleep Medicine and Forensic Psychiatry.

In October 2021, the medical center was recognized as a leading teaching hospital and received “university” designation. “This name change acknowledges Ocean University Medical Center’s commitment to building on its exceptional medical, nursing and clinical educational programs,” said Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, regional president, Southern Market, Hackensack Meridian Health. “Our patients and community benefit most from the academic education and collaborative environment fostered by our faculty, residents, medical staff, and nurses.”

“This graduation marked another proud moment in the history of OUMC,” said Jason Kreitner, FACHE, president and chief hospital executive. “These physicians give us hope for the best outcomes in the delivery of healthcare.”
