Hackensack University Medical Center is Nationally-Ranked by U.S. News & World Report in Four Specialties, More Than Any Other Hospital in New Jersey; JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute ranks among the nation’s best

Hackensack Meridian Health, New Jersey's largest, most comprehensive and truly integrated health care network, has more U.S. News-ranked hospitals than any other health system in New Jersey, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-2023 Best Hospital rankings.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 33rd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

Hackensack University Medical Center is ranked #2 in New Jersey and #10 in the New York metro area. The hospital is home to the state's only nationally-ranked Urology and Neurology & Neurosurgery programs, as well as the best Cardiology & Heart Surgery program. It also offers patients nationally-ranked Orthopedic care and one of the state’s premier Cancer Centers (John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center). Highlights include:

Ocean University Medical Center is ranked #13 in New Jersey. Highlights include:

Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health is once again ranked a top pediatric health care provider in the state. Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center are ranked #1 in the state and top 20 in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 Best Children’s Hospital Report. Additionally, their combined nephrology program ranks in the top 50 in the United States.

JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is ranked #49 nationally for Rehabilitation hospitals.

For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. For the first time, U.S. News rated eligible hospitals in Ovarian Cancer Surgery, Prostate Cancer Surgery and Uterine Cancer Surgery. In the 15 specialties, 164 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.

“The hospitals named to the U.S. News Honor Roll excel across numerous specialties and service lines,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.  “When patients and their medical professionals are considering their options for care, the rankings are designed to help them identify hospitals that are superior in the kind of care they may need.”

U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.
