Hackensack Meridian Health Leaders Named to 2023 NJBIZ Leaders in Law List

Hackensack Meridian Health is pleased to announce that two of its legal leaders have been recognized among the 2023 NJBIZ Leaders in Law honorees: Sharlene A. Hunt, associate general counsel, and Maureen Mahoney, associate general counsel.

Sharlene Hunt is a seasoned attorney with 39 years of experience practicing health law. Since joining Hackensack Meridian Health, she has focused on expanding the continuum of care through multiple joint ventures and new businesses in areas including imaging centers, urgent care, dialysis, ambulatory surgery centers, and the formation of an innovative Medicare Advantage joint venture. A skilled senior legal leader, she has participated in the Hackensack Meridian Health integration, the Hackensack Meridian Carrier Clinic integration, and the Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center integration, resulting in numerous mergers of entities, evolutions in membership, transfers of business operations, and the restructuring of multiple joint ventures. These transactions involve, among other actions, Department of Health approval, Medicare and Medicaid notices, assignment of joint venture interests, and working with joint venture partners to implement restructuring.
Maureen Mahoney, an experienced senior health care attorney and former litigator, is a legal executive at Hackensack Meridian Health. She supports the Hackensack Meridian Health Research Institute, which includes both clinical and preclinical research at the Hackensack Meridian Center for Discovery and Innovation, the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, and the Hackensack Meridian John Theurer Cancer Center. Ms. Mahoney is responsible for negotiating and managing legal matters related to research and technology transfer, helping to facilitate COVID-19 research and make it available to patients. She provides insight on network-wide endeavors, including litigated matters and policy development. She is an advocate for health care entities and their patients working with organizations including the New Jersey Hospital Association to provide context to the legislature and courts regarding healthcare matters.
According to NJBIZ, honorees were chosen by a panel of independent judges with experience in the justice system. Legal professionals were selected based on their outstanding dedication to their occupation and to their communities. Honorees will be formally recognized at an award ceremony held by NJBIZ on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. More information can be found here.
