HackensackAlliance ACO Achieves Millions in Total Savings

The HackensackAlliance Accountable Care Organization (ACO), one of Hackensack Meridian Health’s ACOs, achieved more than $2.5 million in total savings for the 2022 performance year. Since its inception in 2012, the HackensackAlliance ACO has realized more than $206 million in total savings and more than $90 million in shared savings.

“The HackensackAlliance ACO has been a consistent leader in the quest to deliver on health care’s triple aim of lowering health costs while improving patient outcomes and satisfaction,” said Mark D. Sparta, FACHE, president & chief hospital executive, Hackensack University Medical Center and president, Hackensack Meridian Health’s North Region. “The HackensackAlliance ACO’s legacy of success is just one example of how Hackensack Meridian Health is dedicated to improving health care in New Jersey especially among our Medicare patients.”

The HackensackAlliance ACO has consistently achieved strong quality scores as a part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Shared Savings Program. For performance year 2022, the HackensackAlliance ACO posted an 83.28 quality score.

“Our dedicated team has continually achieved incredible quality for a decade,” said Edward Gold, M.D., president of the HackensackAlliance ACO. “We look forward to further refining patient care and delivering the quality care our patients deserve and expect.”

Medicare ACOs are comprised of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who work together to provide coordinated, quality care to their Medicare patients. The goal of each ACO is to ensure patients get the right care at the right time while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.

As of 2023, Hackensack Meridian Health has combined its three previous ACOs into one new HMH ACO, making performance year 2022 the final year for the HackensackAlliance ACO. Becker’s Hospital Review recently included the HMH ACO on its annual list of ACOs to Know.
