April is Parkinson's Awareness Month
Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute's Parkinson's patients prior to tonight's Major League Baseball game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants at Yankee Stadium.
Studies show that singing can help maintain strength in the muscles of speech and voice in people with Parkinson’s disease. Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute and the Parkinson’s Foundation have collaborated to provide the Parkinson’s community with a fun way to exercise voice, speech, and swallowing muscles- through SINGING!
Since August of 2019, the choir for people with Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson-Plus syndromes meets weekly to rehearse songs from a variety of genres, artists, and decades; using cognitive and language skills and exercising the muscles used for speaking, swallowing, and singing. They work hard and have a great time doing it.
