General Dental Practice Residency Program at JFK University Medical Center

The General Practice Residency Program (GPR) program at Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center focuses on strengthening the general dentistry techniques of recently graduated dentists, while preparing them for private practice. During this comprehensive one-year program, dental residents will gain experience across the full spectrum of dentistry including:

• Fixed and Removable prosthodontics
• Oral and maxillofacial surgery
• Orthodontics
• Pediatric dentistry
• Periodontics
• Endodontics
• Oral medicine

Our program aims to provide patient care through a holistic approach that treats the whole patient, with an understanding of oral and systemic relationships in health care. Our residents have the opportunity to interact with other health care professionals throughout JFK University Medical Center, via rotations in family medicine, emergency medicine and anesthesiology. This interdisciplinary interaction allows for a professional exchange that evaluates and manages patient care from both the medical and dental perspectives.

Residents acquire competency in the assessment and treatment of dental and facial trauma, dental emergencies and physical diagnosis. The didactic and clinical components of the JFK University Medical Center GPR program are part of a curriculum that provides residents with the necessary knowledge, skills and professional attitude to accurately and reliably perform as a dentist upon completion of their residency training.
