Our Mission

The mission of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program is to provide comprehensive training in clinical cardiology as well as in-depth exposure to cardiovascular sub-specialties and research. The goal of this program is to teach the fellow clinical knowledge, procedural skills, clinical judgment, professionalism, interpersonal skills and ethical insight in the management of basic and complex cardiovascular diseases. The curriculum is designed to provide broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic cardiovascular care in the inpatient and outpatient settings as well as extensive experience in noninvasive and invasive cardiac modalities. Fellowship training will prepare the trainee to function not only as an outstanding cardiologist but also as a contributing member of the medical community.

Program Overview

The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center is a three-year program offering comprehensive training for clinical cardiologists in a dynamic
environment. Fellows with a passion for learning will provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients. The skills acquired will benefit them throughout their careers.

Jersey Shore, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network, is a tertiary referral hospital that evaluates and treats numerous cardiac patients. We perform cutting-edge cardiac procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacements and percutaneous left atrial appendage closures. Our expert cardiologists specialize in both invasive and noninvasive procedures, providing a wealth of knowledge in a collegial, collaborative environment.

Our institution handles a high volume of procedures annually, and fellows are integral to this extensive clinical activity. Each year, we perform:

  • 1,000 Open Heart Surgeries
  • 4,500 Diagnostic Catheterizations
  • 2,300 Percutaneous Coronary Interventions
  • 1,250 Cardiac Devices (PPM, ICD) Implantation.
  • 1,200 Arrhythmia Ablations
  • 75 Percutaneous Temporary Mechanical Support Devices
  • 13 Durable Mechanical Support Devices (LVAD)
  • 500 Structural Heart Interventions
  • 160 Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion
  • 11,000 Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE)
  • 1,700 Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE)
  • 1,300 Stress Tests.
