Medical Student Audition Rotation

The HMH- Palisades Medical Center Graduate Medical Education programs share common criteria and processes for the recruitment and selection of residency and fellowship training candidates. The application process meets all requirements of the Equal Employment Opportunity and the Americans with Disability Act, in insuring that all qualified applicants are afforded a review without discrimination based on sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability or any other applicable legally protected status.

Minimum requirements general and minimum requirements for eligibility for consideration for a General Surgery Audition Rotation at HMH- Palisades Medical Center General Surgery Program are:

• Anticipated graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
• Anticipated graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
• A US citizen or permanent resident
• Successful completion of USMLE Step 1 OR COMLEX Level 1
• We prefer a minimum USMLE Step 1 score of 230 OR COMLEX Level 1 score of 600.
• Honors in surgery or High Pass in surgery

Follows our block schedule of 13 Blocks

Rotations dates will be confirmed within 1 or 2 weeks of application submission. ( if all documents are available) If you requested dates and are not available, you will be contacted with alternatives.

Do you sponsor visas?
We sponsor J1 visas at this time only.

How many categorical positions are available?
Four.

Do you accept foreign medical graduates?
Yes, we do.

What are the cut off scores for USMLE or Comlex?
We generally, do not accept applicants with scores below 230 for USMLE or for Comlex below 600 on step 1 and 2.

What is the application deadline?
At this time we do not have a specific date however we begin looking at applications in September and the beginning of October. So it is best to have everything uploaded by then.

Do you participate in couples match?
Yes.

Do you need both level 2 scores uploaded to be considered for an interview?
Yes this is very important to have both scores uploaded to ERAS.

Palisades Medical Center

• 202 inpatient beds
• 5 surgical residents on staff every month
• Recent Merger with Hackensack Meridian Health increasing case load
• Teaching campus of Hackensack Meridian Health School of Medicine at Seton Hall University
• 2 hour weekly didactics for board review, grand rounds, attend of the week lectures
• Resident-Run Surgical Services: General, Thoracic, Plastics, Vascular, Bariatric and Pediatric Surgery

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center

• 4,243 inpatient surgeries in 2017, 17,000 admissions/year
• 12 outpatient OR’s, 16 inpatient OR’s + hybrid
• 12 surgical residents on staff every month
• 4 hours of didactics every Wednesday with Board Review,
• M&M, Skills labs, attending lecture, and monthly tumor board
• Resident-Run Surgical Services: General, Vascular, Surg- Onc, Head & Neck, Plastics, Breast, MIS/Bariatric, Robotic, and pediatric surgery

Hackensack University Medical Center

• 775 beds, level 2 trauma center, largest inpatient hospital in NJ
• #1 hospital in NJ last 6 years by US News & World Report
• 8 surgical residents on staff every month from our program
• 2 hours of didactics every Tuesday with M&M and Grand Rounds
• Weekly trauma journal club, M&M, and attending lecture
• Resident Run Surgical Services: Acute Care Surgery, SICU,
• Trauma, Pediatric Surgery, MIS, and Transplant

Scholarly Activities

• There were 52 papers, posters and manuscripts presented in the past academic year.
• Presentations were at:
