Transitional Year Residency at Palisades Medical Center

Welcome Message from the Program Director 

My name is Adam Atoot and as the Program Director I would like to welcome you to the transitional year program at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center. We are an ACGME accredited program with 18 residency positions. Our program is committed to providing superior medical care by incorporating a curriculum that focuses on the delivery of compassionate care, an active role in patient advocacy, a dedication to community service, a plan for lifelong learning and a desire for the advancement of medical knowledge. As you take the first step in preparation for your advanced training, our program will equip you by providing exceptional training in different disciplines of medicine. My vision, as Program Director, is to make sure you are provided with exceptional educational experiences so that you are equipped with the skills necessary to become excellent physicians of tomorrow.

Residents will have the opportunity to work in an integrated academic environment where they will rotate within various departments including our ACGME-accredited sponsoring program in Surgery, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB-GYN, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology.

Our strong commitment for teaching and learning at the highest standard is the foundation for our program. We offer innovative approaches to residency training in a supportive and collaborative environment to provide you with the tools, skills and experiences to be outstanding physicians and leaders. Our highly knowledgeable and experienced team of clinicians and medical educators guide our residents to help them become prepared for independent patient care in their respective fields.

Program Overview

One-year training experience that allows interns to fulfill the clinical prerequisite for specialty training or those have not yet made a career choice of specialty selection and desire a broad based year to assist them in making that decision.

Curriculum is flexible within the ACGME requirements to allow varied career paths such as anesthesiology, dermatology, radiology, and physical medicine/rehabilitation. Thirteen 4-week block rotations, 7 of which must be fundamental clinical skills (FCS) rotations.

Mastering the techniques of history-taking and physical examination, gain expertise in the care of patients in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, and develop competence in procedural skills. Focusing on fundamentals of differential diagnosis and clinical problem solving.

Providing interns with a well-balanced program of graduate medical education in core clinical disciplines.
