Children’s Cancer Care
Expert Pediatric Oncology Services for Kids of All Ages
As a parent, you want your children to be healthy, safe, and happy. Hearing that your child has cancer can feel like the world has suddenly shifted on its axis. From that point forward, the only thing that matters is getting your child better.
You’ve come to the right place. From bone or soft tissue sarcomas and hematologic malignancies (leukemia, lymphoma and histiocytosis), to other solid tumors (neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, hepatoblastoma and germ-cell tumors) and more, our board-certified pediatric oncologists are here to help.
Where Compassion Meets Cutting-Edge Treatment
At Hackensack Meridian Children's Health, we understand that facing childhood cancer is an overwhelming task. That's why our approach to cancer treatment leverages the most innovative treatments and well-rounded support.
Through our participation in the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and membership in the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), your child has access to cutting-edge treatment protocols from national and international experts. With more than 100 clinical trials, some of which were exclusively developed at our facilities, our doctors are always finding new and better ways to conquer even the rarest types of cancer.
As an example, we're the only certified site in New Jersey to offer CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) T-cell therapy. Some of our newer treatments can lessen or completely remove the need for chemotherapy or radiation. Our doctors keep up with the latest FDA-approved treatments, so we're always exploring new ways to help your child feel better.
Convenience and comfort matter, too. That’s why our multidisciplinary team works side-by-side with your child's pediatrician and other specialists to deliver comprehensive care in child-friendly environments. Our lifelong support extends beyond treatment, offering guidance for childhood cancer survivors and a smooth transition to adult medical services.

Why Choose Us for Children’s Cancer Care?
Our pediatric oncology team pioneers cancer treatments, including New Jersey's first and largest pediatric bone marrow and stem cell transplant program. Our participation in national and international research consortiums provides our patients with access to over 60 active clinical trials for all pediatric Hematology-Oncology patients.
Our program is the only one in New Jersey that offers fertility preservation options to all patients across the pediatric and young adult age spectrum. Our team provides consultations for patients with cancer and serious blood disorders who are at risk for impaired fertility. The team, which includes a dedicated nurse navigator, coordinates referrals for fertility preservation options.
Our survivorship programming provides a multidisciplinary approach to the surveillance and early intervention for ongoing medical needs related to the late effects of therapies. We provide support for patients treated by our pediatric cancer, hematology, transplant and cellular/gene therapy teams who are two or more years past treatment. We also follow any pediatric cancer or transplant survivors regardless of where they were treated.
Making an Impact through Tackle Kids Cancer
Only 4% of the federal U.S. budget is dedicated to pediatric cancer. Because of this, many of the available treatments, team members who provide care, research conducted to find cures and support services offered at our Children's Hospitals are funded through Tackle Kids Cancer, a philanthropic initiative of Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation to raise crucial funds for pediatric cancer research, essential clinical care and unique patient support programs.
Our Research and Clinical Trials
At Hackensack Meridian Health, you may have the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial of new and exciting approaches to stem cell transplant. Our research has a strong focus on reducing the complications of transplant and also lowering the risk of disease recurrence. We are the first in the world to combine checkpoint inhibitors (drugs that inhibit the proteins cancer cells use to evade detection by the immune system) after transplantation, at a time when the immune system has the best opportunity to eliminate any remaining cancer cells.
