Cardiomyopathy Care & Advanced Heart Failure Treatment In New Jersey

Cardiomyopathy vs. Heart Failure

Cardiomyopathy is a group of diseases that affect the heart muscle, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. The heart muscle may become thickened, enlarged, or stiff.

Heart failure occurs when the heart doesn’t pump as efficiently as it should to deliver oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the body. This results in fatigue, shortness of breath and fluid retention that can permanently damage your heart. This does not develop suddenly, but happens over time as the heart’s pumping ability declines and cannot keep up with the workload.

Cardiomyopathy directly affects the heart muscle's structure, while heart failure describes the heart's inability to pump blood effectively, regardless of the underlying cause. Cardiomyopathy can cause heart failure, but other conditions can also lead to heart failure. Both share similar symptoms and require medical care.
