Addiction Medicine Fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Program Overview

Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, stands out as the Jersey Shore’s premier not-for-profit health care facility. Hackensack Meridian Health has consistently been rated among the top performing health systems in New Jersey for clinical quality.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center has a robust addiction recovery service, with specialty services in the outpatient setting, including addiction and dual diagnosis intensive outpatient programs (IOP), an adolescent addiction program, an office-based addiction treatment (OBAT) program with medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Just down the street, we have JSAS HealthCare, Inc., where fellows will have the opportunity to rotate with a focus on their methadone treatment program and complete psychiatric and substance abuse evaluations. Here, they will have the opportunity to treat patients under the supervision of a board certified addiction medicine psychiatrist.

Fellow will attend the pain clinic at Hackensack Meridian JFK Medical Center in Edison, where they will have the opportunity to evaluate patients with acute and chronic pain, learn to treat pain effectively, and learn to manage pain in patients with addiction.

At the Carrier Foundation Clinic in Belle Mead, fellows will be exposed to an inpatient dual diagnosis unit (the adult psychiatric with addiction ["APA"] unit) with 32 beds (ASAM level 4.0) and an additional 8 geriatric dual diagnosis beds. The facility also includes the Blake Recovery Center, an ASAM 3.7 level of care program that has 40 beds.

With the six core competencies established by the ACGME in mind, the addiction medicine fellowship program has been designed to provide a comprehensive and innovative clinical environment. Fellows will learn to work individually and in interdisciplinary teams with patients from the start of their recovery process to maintenance; in and with a variety of systems of care; how to approach cases through a developmental lens; and so much more!

As our fellow, your well-being is an important to us. At our hospital-wide fellowship orientation, fellows will be educated about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, tips on avoiding burnout, and the availability of counseling and mental health services.
