Welcome to the Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. This non-ACGME accredited program is accepting applications for start dates in July 2024 and July 2025. The fellowship offers a one-year clinical track with the option for exceptional candidates to extend to a second-year concentration in research.
Program Details
Trainees embark on a one-year clinical fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s National Multiple Sclerosis Society-recognized Comprehensive Care Center of Excellence.
Working alongside three MS specialists, trainees are immersed in the evaluation and management of patients in both clinic and hospital settings. The fellowship provides in-depth training in comprehensive care of multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders (NID), including engaging in multidisciplinary electives.
The MS fellowship program involves:
- Primary training in a dedicated outpatient setting specializing in MS and NID.
- Scholarly and research activities make up 40% of the program and include monthly conferences, weekly didactic sessions and exposure to clinical research.
During the program, you will gain:
- Comprehensive knowledge of core MS and NID, including basic pathogenesis; epidemiology, disease course and prognosis, and special populations
- The ability to clinically evaluate patients, including obtaining a complete and relevant history and an understanding of clinical rating scales commonly used to evaluate patients
- The skills necessary for efficient and accurate diagnosis of MS and NID, including differential diagnosis needed to consider, including the use of imaging and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) testing
- A sophisticated understanding of treatment subtleties and controversies in MS and other NID
