Welcome Message from the Program Director

We are so excited that you are interested in the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Our program is proud of our over fifty years of producing clinically competent and compassionate graduates who are dedicated to patient-centered care.

We have supportive faculty who are devoted to teaching, providing safe, quality patient care, research and mentorship. Our trainees receive extensive training in obstetrics, gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology, family planning, breast and pediatric/adolescent gynecology. We realize that this is usually a very stressful time in their lives and so we foster an environment that encourages them to learn, thrive, and maintain a work-life balance.

Our aim is to provide our residents with the resources to develop into strong, confident physicians who provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to diverse patient populations, while maintaining core values of respect, reliability and professionalism whether as a generalist or a subspecialist in Ob/Gyn.

Thank you for your interest!

Program Overview

The OB/GYN Residency program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center is a community-based residency serving a very diverse patient population. We believe that encouraging diversity in our students, residents, faculty and staff allows us to relate to our patients. We are located in Neptune, NJ, which is a year-round shore community.

Our program is approved for 4 residents per year. The program is close knit and generates a family feel which results in collaboration among the residents and close mentoring relationships with the faculty. We have a formal mentorship program among the residents and between the residents and faculty. Many of our graduates choose to stay or returned to the program after fellowship to become faculty.

Our faculty is dedicated to teaching and we place great emphasis on education with activities such as monthly Journal Clubs, Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality conferences; at least 5 hours per week of protected didactics among other things. This emphasis on education and mentoring has allowed us to identify trainees who are having academic difficulties early in their training and obtain additional help for them.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and its residency program are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). We will provide high quality, safe, patient-centered, timely and equitable care for patients of every race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, educational level and socioeconomic status. Learn more about our organization's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion here.

Our campus is a regional referral center for our vast hospital network and thus all our specialties are on campus. Our residents get exposure to a vast amount of pathology and gain valuable experience in managing high risk patients. They are exposed early in their training to the Da Vinci robot system and become well versed in robotic surgery. We have a state-of-the-art simulation center which employs advanced technology to present life-like patient scenarios which our program utilizes on a regular basis. We are fortunate to be one of only 100 programs in the country that has received funding for a Ryan Residency Training program in Family Planning. Residents can also schedule external rotations to assist in their fellowship pursuits. Many of our residents have continued on to fellowships in their desired field. Due to the variety of experiences, our residents are well rounded and feel fully equipped to practice independently once they graduate.
