Education

Morning report is held daily at 8:00 a.m. and is directed by the faculty and chief resident. The admitting and primary care teams provide case presentations and lead discussions about noteworthy cases.

Grand Rounds

Are organized by the continuous medical education (CME) department and held every Tuesday. Expert speakers from around the country are invited to lecture about important and upcoming Internal Medicine and General Medical topics. PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents present cases at the beginning of each conference.

Journal Club

The Journal Club meets monthly. PGY-2 residents select and present important and interesting articles from various medical journals for discussion with faculty and staff.

Team Based Learning

Team based learning meets weekly. Residents are given up-to-date journal articles, guidelines, and evidence based materials to review the week prior on a designated topic. During the exercise, they answer questions and apply the knowledge that they have acquired while teaching each other in an interactive setting.

Board Review

All residency graduates are expected to successfully complete the ABIM Internal Medicine Certifying Exam in their first attempt, immediately following their training.

The program provides several activities in preparation for the exam:

• A highly interactive Board Review session is conducted throughout the academic year, attended by residents during their clinic weeks.
• The program leadership facilitates interactive sessions using materials from the American College of Physicians Medical Knowledge Self- Assessment Program (MKSAP).
• An annual In-Training Examination for all residents enrolled in the program

Infectious Disease Conference

This conference is presented monthly by PGY-2 residents on the Infectious Diseases rotation and moderated the Infectious Diseases faculty.

Teaching Rounds

Critical care and floor rounds are conducted daily with the attending faculty. Sign-out rounds for critical care are held every day at 4:00 p.m. and supervised by the attending faculty member.

Procedure Workshops

Organized and conducted by the faculty intensivist and senior critical care residents.

Mortality and Morbidity conference

Conducted once a month and presented by PGY-2 residents, the M&M conferences are a venue for discussing cases that ended with mortality or significant morbidity in order to emphasis teaching and educational points. This conference is moderated by a core faculty attending and attended by all residents, sub-specialty faculty and staff involved in the case being discussed. The conference is open to all medical staff.

OB/GYN seminar

Held once a month and presented by the PGY 1 resident who is rotating the OB/GYN outpatient clinic, the topic is prepared under the advisement of the OB/GYN faculty. Topics that are selected are important to the primary care field and important knowledge base for the internist.

Geriatric Seminar

Held once a month and presented by the PGY-1 or PGY-2 resident on the Geriatric rotation, the presentation is prepared under guidance from the Geriatric Medicine faculty and is attended by all residents.

PGY 3 Seminar

Every PGY-3 resident is expected to prepare a seminar and present a topic of their choosing, usually in an area of their interest, prior to their graduation. The seminar is attended by all residents and faculty.
