New life for former Roche site in Clifton: Facility to target cancer, infectious disease

A building where scientists once discovered a key component of the human body's immune system was dedicated anew Wednesday as Hackensack Meridian Health's Center for Discovery and Innovation, another step in the transformation of Hoffmann-La Roche's former campus into a new hub for medical education and research. The towering research building on the border of Clifton and Nutley has been renovated, equipped and staffed with highly accomplished scientists as part of a $65 million investment by the health care system. On Wednesday, Gov. Phil Murphy presided at the ribbon cutting for the new center, with Robert Garrett, CEO, of the health network, and the scientists who will lead the research effort.  The center "will bring together the greatest minds in science and medicine to make significant breakthroughs in cancer, infectious disease and regenerative medicine," Murphy said. They will "see the way through the data all the way to the cure."
