Riverview Medical Center Foundation Welcomes New Board Chair

Jonathan Schultz

Hackensack Meridian Riverview Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Schultz as chair of its board of trustees, replacing longtime chair Steven Scopellite who served in the position from January 2017 to December 2021, and who will remain on the board of trustees and as a foundation governance committee member. Schultz will take over leading the board in its fundraising efforts in support of Hackensack Meridian Riverview Medical Center, located in Red Bank, NJ.

“I am honored to be named as chair of this prestigious foundation,” says Schultz, who is also co-founder and managing principal of Onyx Equities, LLC., and who also previously served as treasurer for Riverview Medical Center Foundation. “Under Steve’s leadership, and in partnership with the board of trustees, hospital and Hackensack Meridian Health leadership, philanthropy has helped to provide for many projects and services that have enhanced care for our community. I look forward to building on past successes to secure funding that will ultimately benefit patients, physicians and our health care team members.”

Under Scopellite’s leadership, Riverview Medical Center Foundation raised nearly $30 million, enabling the medical center to embark on significant patient care enhancements, including the renovation of the 2N/2W wing, which transformed an entire patient floor into private rooms. The focus throughout his tenure was on continuously improving health care outcomes and technology-driven initiatives to enhance patient care. Schultz will take the helm as the medical center continues its fight against COVID-19 and plans for the future of health care.

“Philanthropy is vital in enabling the medical center to provide the exceptional patient care for which we are known,” says Tim Hogan, executive vice president, Care Transformation Services and president, chief hospital executive, Riverview Medical Center. “Steve has been an incredible partner to Riverview Medical Center in his time as board chair and I am grateful for everything he has done to help us advance our mission. I look forward to working with Jonathan in his new role and to all of the great work we will accomplish together to ensure that our community continues to have access to the world-class services and care that they expect and deserve.”

In addition to his work with Riverview Medical Center Foundation, Schultz has extensive experience serving on other boards, including the Big Apple Chapter of YPO - a worldwide network of chief executives and business leaders - and was a board member of the Award of Courage Foundation where he raised funds for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and was a past recipient of its Humanitarian Award. In addition, he has sat on boards of public and private companies in the technology arena and is a member of Mindaligned (initiative via Count Basie Center for the Arts), which is a collective impact initiative to create arts-engaged schools.

“Jon’s incredible experience on other boards, combined with his knowledge and passion for the care provided at Riverview Medical Center, will make him an excellent chair for our distinguished board of trustees,” says Scopellite. “There are many significant projects in the works at Riverview Medical Center and now, more than ever, support is needed as the medical center looks to the future and providing the best health care possible for the community. It has been my pleasure to serve as chair over the last five years, and as a board member since 2011, but I feel confident in Jon’s abilities to lead the board through these challenging times and beyond.”
