Ocean University Medical Center Performs its First Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery
July 17, 2022
Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center has performed its first robotic-assisted total knee-replacement surgery utilizing the CORI ™ Surgical System, an advancement in the way orthopedic surgeons perform partial and total knee replacement. This capability adds to the robust offerings at the medical center, providing even more surgical options as part of the comprehensive orthopedic program.
The robotic-assisted total knee replacement procedure was performed by David Rodricks, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Ocean University Medical Center. “Within the last few years, the advancements in robotic-assisted technology have been a game changer for knee replacement surgery,” said Dr. Rodricks. “I’m pleased to be able to offer this most advanced technology to my patients so they can make an informed choice related to the options available for their knee replacement surgery.”
With 3D digital modeling, patients benefit from a surgical plan that is customized to their unique anatomy, increasing the accuracy of implant placement, which may result in a quicker, smoother recovery, regaining function faster, and returning to activities sooner.
“My recovery was amazing, the physical therapist couldn't believe I had 95% range of motion right after surgery, '' said Frank Fiorella of Point Pleasant, NJ, the first patient to undergo the procedure at Ocean. “I am looking forward to walking with my granddaughter and getting back to my golf game.”
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons estimates knee replacement surgeries are expected to increase a staggering 180% between now and 2030 in the United States. “Ocean University Medical Center is proud to be at the forefront of robotic technology and orthopedic surgery,” said Jason Kreitner, FACHE, president and chief hospital executive. “The addition of this robotic technology delivers the type of leading-edge care we strive to provide for our patients.”
Certified by The Joint Commission as an accredited orthopedic program, Ocean University Medical Center performs close to 1,000 hip and knee joint replacements annually.
