Feeling Depressed, Stressed, Anxious?
Walk-In Care and Answers When You Need Them
Experiencing occasional depression, anxiety or stress is normal, and most people have these feelings for brief periods that pass and do not interfere with their daily lives and relationships.
However, if these feelings linger for more than a few days or become persistent, talking to someone who can answer questions and provide guidance is often helpful.
Our location offers walk-in care and a convenient option for individuals and families to get answers in a safe setting associated with the region’s top-ranked hospitals, including Jersey Shore University Medical Center and the area's top doctors.
When you or a loved one aren’t feeling like themselves, we’re here to help in a welcoming and trusted environment.
Conditions and individuals we treat:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Mood disorders
- Children, adolescents, adults and older adults age 5 years of age and older (children 5 - 14 only seen from 8am to 4pm weekdays)
What is Behavioral Health with Urgent Care?
Traditional urgent care centers have been around for over 40 years, providing quick and affordable walk-in care for life’s minor bumps, bruises, coughs, and colds.
Hackensack Meridian Health was the first in the nation to develop the same for minor mental and behavioral health issues and concerns. This simple and new model of care combines both traditional medical urgent care services with behavioral health services for minor mental, behavioral, or mood-related concerns and issues because your mental health is as important as your physical wellness.
Urgent care with Behavioral Health does not replace your regular psychiatrist or mental health professional or when going to the nearest hospital emergency room is necessary.
Why Both Services Together?
By combining medical urgent care services with behavioral health expertise, we can provide a thorough evaluation and diagnosis of physical medical conditions and mental health-related issues.
In many cases, symptoms like depression could be related to an underlying or undiagnosed medical condition (like a thyroid condition, hypertension, or chronic illness).
By visiting our office, our clinical team is equipped to identify medical conditions that may impact mental or behavior and understand and treat behavioral health conditions.
Conditions and situations when visiting an emergency room would be appropriate:
- Suicide or self-harm
- Violent or erratic behavior
- Substance-related issues
- Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar or personality disorders
A Familiar Feel
When you arrive, our location will look and feel familiar because it is a traditional urgent care center in every way, with the addition of specialized experts in mental health.
Upon check-in, we have a separate and discrete waiting area for individuals visiting for behavioral health services.
Once in an exam room, our care team and process will include:
- Exam by our board certified physician for any medical concerns
- Consultation with specialized behavioral health nurses and licensed, certified social workers
- If necessary, a telehealth consultation with a board certified psychiatrist to determine level care and treatment needed
Our goal is to stabilize the individual, address concerns, provide treatment at the site, direct them to an appropriate level of care (which may be the hospital ED), or help schedule an appointment with a behavioral health professional.
Transitional or “Bridge Care” Services
A unique service we provide is follow-up care and assistance to assure that individuals are feeling well and also be a point of contact after a visit.
These transitional, or bridge care services, provide a level of comfort and support for our patients and families, knowing they are not alone after a visit with us. We know navigating mental health services may be unknown and confusing, so we developed “Bridge Care”.
We may prescribe or refill medications for depression as needed, but we do not prescribe controlled substances and benzodiazepines that require a higher level of oversight and medical supervision.
If you’re experiencing any of the below symptoms and your regular psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist is not available, Hackensack Meridian Urgent Care with Behavioral Health can help:
- Anxiety, stress or perceived panic attack
- Loss of interest in doing things you typically enjoy
- Trouble focusing, loss of appetite, feelings of isolation
- Flare-ups from known mood disorders
- Change in conduct, hyperactivity or attention issues in children ages 16+
Patients with more serious symptoms or those in some level of crisis such as thoughts of suicide, trouble with drug or substance abuse or those who are experiencing delusional symptoms (unable to differentiate what is real versus imagined) will need to go to a Behavioral Health clinic, professional, or a local Emergency Room that is equipped for a higher level of behavioral health care.
If you are experiencing any of the below, seek treatment in an Emergency Room.
- Thoughts of suicide or self-harm, or harming others
- Violent, erratic, or aggressive behavior
- Drug or substance withdrawal and detox
- Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar or personality disorders
