Application Process
Applicants are urged to submit their completed applications early in September when ERAS opens. This ensures prompt review of their applications and facilitates early correspondence for those candidates selected to interview with our program.
We will continue to accept applications until December 1st; however, candidates are urged to complete their applications in September. The ERAS website can be accessed at https://www.aamc.org/services/eras/.
Our residency program application requirements are:
- Register for a first year residency position with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) (nrmp.org)
- Complete an ERAS application (aamc.org/eras)
- Personal statement
- Curriculum vitae
- Recent photograph
- Medical school transcripts (to be provided by your medical school)
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) formerly known as the Dean’s Letter (to be provided by your medical school)
- Three letters of recommendation from supervising faculty who know you well and can comment in depth on your clinical work, achievement, leadership, personal qualities, and project contributions. At least one of these letters should be written by a faculty member in pediatrics.
- USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts (to be provided by National Boards). Candidates must request that scores be forwarded by the National Boards via ERAS when the application process begins.
- A passingscore on USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 is required and a passing score on both parts (CK and CS) USMLE/COMLEX Step 2 is required prior to the end of the interview season.
- ECFMG Status Report (international graduates only, to be provided by ECFMG.)
- We do accept international graduates.
- We do not anticipate sponsoring visas this academic year. Candidates must be within five years of graduation from medical school at the time of matriculating into the residency program.
- Personal interview
Candidates need to recognize that physicians matriculating into the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Pediatric Residency Program will be expected to:
- Complete satisfactorily ALL of their medical school’s requirements culminating in graduation from medical school in good standing
- Provide proof of graduation from medical school
- Have ECFMG certification (if applicable), and
- Be eligible for a training license as a resident physician in the State of New Jersey as governed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
Resident selection is accomplished via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). See www.nrmp.org for more information. Residents are expected to complete all three years of training in our residency training program.
