Why JSUMC?: On interview day, I was met with genuine support from everyone I interacted with.
Karen Chau, D.O.
Undergraduate: Smith College
Medical School: NYITCOM - Long Island
Career Interest: Cardiology, Emergency Medicine
Fun Fact: I love to travel! During undergrad, I studied abroad in London and Beijing, and did an internship in Singapore.
Why JSUMC?: The openness and approachability of faculty and residents were a consistent theme in my interviews and it makes me very excited about the program. It is a place where I can see myself learning a lot from both the faculty and my co-residents to grow as a physician while being happy - being close to family in NYC.
Katie Dang, D.O.

Career Interest: Neonatology
Fun Fact: I love to bake croissants!
Why JSUMC?: I had a great time meeting everyone on interview day. Throughout the entire application process, all the residents and faculty have been so kind, welcoming and encouraging. I also grew up in New Jersey and love visiting the beach.
Melanie Rae Espino-Canche, M.D.
Undergraduate: California State University - Fullerton
Medical School: St. George's University
Career Interest: Neurogenetics, Neurodevelopmental disabilities, starting a clinical-therapeutic non-profit organization
Fun Fact: My family and I auditioned and were accepted onto Family Feud. I was a cheerleader and coach for a large portion of my life. I have a dog named River whom we won through a lottery.
Why JSUMC?: A medical degree wasn't the only thing I left with after finishing medical school. While studying on the island, I met my soulmate, who happened to be from the East Coast. We decided to couples match and JSUMC stood out to me. I was captivated by JSUMC having a fairly new Child Neurology Program, with a great foundation, and I am excited to be part of its growth.
Andrew Haroun, D.O.

Career Interest: Outpatient Pediatrics
Fun Fact: I played the trumpet in middle and high school
Why JSUMC?: I knew I would get excellent training at the number one Children's Hospital in NJ. The faculty and staff were so friendly during the interview process and I was confident I would train in an amicable environment as I personally knew many of the residents in the program. I'm truly so blessed and grateful to begin my Pediatrics Residency with Jersey Shore.

Career Interest: Post Pediatric Portal Program for Psychiatry or Emergency Pediatrics
Fun Fact: I have lived in four different countries
Why JSUMC?: Jersey Shore has a diverse pathology and patient population which allows me to receive robust training. The hospital is located in Jersey close to my family and gives me the opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful Jersey shore.
Hunter Lakin, D.O.
Undergraduate: LeMoyne College - Syracuse, NY

Career Interest: General Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology and Cardiology
Fun Fact: I did the couple's match with my significant other who is in the Internal Medicine program. We are moving from NY with our two cats - Whiskey & Yodi
Why JSUMC?: The area is beautiful, JSUMC is a large facility and has career opportunities. It has a welcoming team and it is in a great location for my partner and me. I'm also looking forward to spending some time on the beach!

Fun Fact: I have to come to acquire an entire collection of National Geographic magazines from a random person on Facebook Marketplace
Why JSUMC?: The residents and faculty are some of the most adorable people I have ever met in my life. I want to be part of that!

Fun Fact: I grew up in Nigeria and Oman and am the youngest of six children
Why JSUMC?: It is an incredible program which offers many career opportunities. JSUMC is also close to my sister and I appreciate the opportunity to be near family.

Fun Fact: I love to sing! I take vocal lessons and my favorite kind of party is a karaoke party:) Why JSUMC?: It's an amazing program with great residents and attendings, research opportunities and patient population. Living by the beach and working in a beautiful hospital is also a big bonus!
