A Heart of Gold to Support Cardiac Fellowships
June 13, 2024
The way Anton Semprivivo sees it, the doctors, nurses and other caregivers at Hackensack University Medical Center helped save his life – twice. First as a teenager, when he received successful treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma; and then, following a heart attack he suffered at age 40, when he underwent a cardiac catheterization and stent placement. Now 55 and in good health, Anton has made a $250,000 gift in support of the Structural and Congenital Heart Disease Fellowships at Hackensack, which train residents in internal medicine in advanced heart procedures.
The Heart & Vascular Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center provides cutting-edge treatment and diagnosis. Its programs in interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery and stroke care have consistently earned high marks with independent ratings agencies. The Center was listed among the “Top 50 Heart Hospitals” in the country by U.S. News and World Report and was the highest ranked hospital in New Jersey for cardiology & heart surgery.
The Clinical Cardiology section supplies a comprehensive range of clinical services from primary prevention to advanced interventions and rehabilitation for cardiac disease.
“I was so impressed with the team of caregivers at Hackensack,” says Anton, who is vice-president of the Bob Ciasulli Auto Group, a family business with six dealerships and 600 employees statewide. “I forged a relationship with the doctors and nurses there.”
Anton stressed that the nursing team at Hackensack deserved special recognition for their skilled and compassionate care, and he lauded the former head of cardiology, Louis Teichholz, M.D., now retired), William Salerno, M.D., director of the Heart Care Center and the Advanced Cardiovascular Assessment Program, and Michael Farber, M.D., medical director of Executive Health.
Anton said he hopes his donation in support of the fellowships can continue progress and innovation in the treatment of cardiac disease, which took the life of his dad, Joseph, last year.
“Maybe with more treatment, education and resources I can help make life easier for the people who come after me,” says Anton. “I’ve been fortunate in my life and my business, I’m in a good place with my heart issues and I wanted to do this.”
We thank Anton for his generous support and know his gift will help us transform cardiac care.
