Giving with Heart & Sole to Benefit Cancer Patients

February 14, 2025
Karen Sole’s connection to John Theurer Cancer Center spans two decades and two generations. Both she and her son have received care at the cancer hospital, and her gratitude has inspired her to give back through philanthropy since 2022.
“The doctors there have had such an impact on me,” says Karen.
In the past four years, she has bravely faced both lung and breast cancer, emerging cancer-free and in remission. Her journey is deeply personal, not just for herself, but for her family. Brian, Karen’s son, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2004, when he was in his mid-20s. Thanks to the care he received at John Theurer Cancer Center, he, too, is thriving today.
Karen, who lives in Rochelle Park and teaches court reporting, is actively being treated for maintenance by Harry Harper, M.D., Stanley Waintraub, M.D., and Christopher McGreevy, M.D.
“Thanks to the expertise and caring of these great doctors, I can look forward to many years of enjoying time with Brian, my daughter-in-law Katrina and spoiling my three grandchildren.
Karen happily recounts the professionalism and caring and genuine concern of the medical and support staff at John Theurer Cancer Center, which helped make her cancer treatment bearable.
“The nurses in the infusion rooms, the technicians for radiology, even the people who serve you lunch – everybody is always trying to make you feel comfortable during a difficult time.”
We are so grateful to Karen for her giving over the years! To learn more about how you can support John Theurer Cancer Center and patient care, visit GiveHMH.org/JTCC or contact Nancy Kennedy, director of development, at nancyk.kennedy@hmhn.org.
