Ryan K. Kaple, M.D., FACC, FSCAI
Program Director, Structural and Congenital Heart Program
Ryan K. Kaple, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is the new Director of the Structural & Congenital Heart Program at Hackensack University Medical Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and minimally invasive mitral and tricuspid valve therapies.
Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Kaple was the Director of Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Therapies and the Structural Heart Disease Fellowship Program at the Yale School of Medicine, where he also served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. During his time in Connecticut he was also the Director of the VA Connecticut Structural Heart Disease Program. Dr. Kaple utilizes the latest evidence based medicine and has held the role of principal and co-investigator on numerous clinical trials related to heart valve disease. He is viewed as a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive mitral and tricuspid valve therapies.
He has contributed many publications to medical literature including peer-reviewed original research, case reports, and book chapters. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and is a reviewer for Structural Heart: The Journal of the Heart Team and Cardiology in Review. Dr. Kaple is committed to educating future health care providers by regularly participating in national lecture series for trainees. Outside of the hospital Dr. Kaple enjoys coaching his son’s baseball team, backpacking, camping, and cycling.
Craig L. Basman, M.D., FACC, FSCAI

Craig Basman, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, has recently joined the Hackensack Meridian Medical Group team as the Associate Director of the Structural & Congenital Heart Program. Board-certified in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease, Dr. Basman is recognized for his specialty in percutaneous treatment for coronary artery, congenital and structural heart disease.
Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Basman served as an attending physician in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. He has played an integral role in the advancement of transcatheter heart therapies with his involvement in numerous clinical trials (including CLASP TR, SUMMIT, FLASH, FLAME, and TRISCEND) and wrote over 60 peer reviewed publications. Dr. Basman was also the Interventional Director of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team for the northern region. Dr. Basman serves on several review and editorial boards in prestigious medical journals, and has also presented his work at multiple national and international academic conferences. Dr. Basman has been named in 2022 and 2023 to the New York Times Super Doctors. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology as well as the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Basman is dedicated to advancing transcatheter heart therapies, and his foremost priority is to deliver exemplary clinical care to his patients, characterized by availability, empathy, collaboration, and his outstanding procedural skills.
Sung-Han Yoon, M.D.

Dr. Sung-Han Yoon is a nationally and internationally recognized interventional cardiologist and heart valve specialist. He recently joined the Structural and Congenital Heart Program at Hackensack University Medical Center, bringing a wealth of expertise in Transcatheter Valve Therapies, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and Mitral Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (MTEER).
Dr. Yoon’s journey in medicine spans multiple world-renowned institutions. He completed his cardiology training at Keio University Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, one of the country’s most prestigious medical centers. Following the devastating 2011 tsunami in Japan, he dedicated himself to advancing cardiovascular medicine and moved to Asan Medical Center in South Korea, a globally recognized leader in interventional cardiology. To further specialize in structural heart interventions, he pursued a clinical fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, one of the world’s highest-volume centers for transcatheter valve therapies. He then continued his work at Case Western Reserve University Medical Center, focusing exclusively on complex structural heart interventions.
Dr. Yoon has vast experience with a broad spectrum of advanced procedures, including:
- TAVR with all device platforms including the Balloon-Expandable and Self-Expanding valves
- Mitral Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (MTEER) using MitraClip and PASCAL systems
- Transcatheter Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) with Watchman and Amulet
- Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)
- Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement (TTVR) and Repair
A dedicated researcher and educator, Dr. Yoon has been a featured speaker at major international cardiology conferences, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and EuroPCR. His research has been widely published, with over 120 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier medical journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, JAMA, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). He also serves as a peer reviewer for these esteemed journals.
Fluent in English, Japanese and Korean, allowing him to provide personalized, culturally sensitive care to a diverse patient population.
Outside of medicine, he is a devoted father of three and an active supporter of his children's basketball and tennis activities. He also enjoys traveling to national parks, embracing nature and adventure.

is a Multimodality Imaging Cardiologist and the Director of Interventional & Structural Echocardiography at the Hackensack University Medical Center’s Structural and Congenital Heart Center. Dr. Wengrofsky is the primary imager for patients being considered for structural heart interventions, both on the inpatient and outpatient basis. He works closely with the echocardiography lab to develop imaging protocols for structural heart patients in both the pre and post intervention settings.
Dr. Wengrofsky takes an active role in echocardiography and multimodality cardiovascular imaging education in both the general cardiology and structural heart disease fellowships. Dr. Wengrofsky has several peer reviewed publications in prestigious medical journals, and has also presented his work at multiple national and international academic conferences. Additionally, he has taken on leadership and professional advancement positions in local and national cardiology associations. Dr. Wengrofsky is dedicated to delivering exemplary care to his patients, characterized by his extensive knowledge and leadership abilities.
