“A Colorado native, I have lived throughout the United States, including Philadelphia. My professional interests include metabolic psychiatry, lifestyle medicine, and the intersection of physical and mental health. I have enjoyed my residency training because of the supportive environment, collaborative culture, and the opportunity to learn from colleagues and mentors who are genuinely invested in one another's success. Outside of work, I enjoy strength training, running, and spending time at the beach.”

I spend much of my time reading, biking, or relaxing with my co-residents. “I am of Cuban/Dominican descent and grew up in Miami, FL. I received a Bachelor's in Anthropology from the University of Miami and a Master's in Public Health from Florida International University. I then attended medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am interested in addiction medicine and plan to pursue fellowship. I love the HUMC track program because of the diverse patient population and its proximity to NYC! For fun I love to read, listen to music, hike, cuddle with my cat Jaime, and play Magic the Gathering.”

Zachary Penfil, M.D.
“I grew up in Garnet Valley, PA and studied biology at the University of Pennsylvania, where I also played lacrosse. My interests in psychiatry include sports psychiatry and the young adult population. The best part of working at JSUMC is the people - I am surrounded by amazing co-residents and supportive attendings in my program. Outside of work, you can find me on the golf course, coaching youth lacrosse, at a Philadelphia Eagles game, or hiking a nearby trail with my wife and dog.”
