The Center for Discovery and Innovation offers a space where physicians can participate in basic science research. This includes drug development and discovery. The Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine also offers opportunities to engage in medical education research, an especially interesting option for those who plan to pursue careers in academic medicine.
The John Theurer Cancer Center is at the forefront of cancer research and treatment. With over 350 active clinical trials currently underway, there are abundant opportunities for residents to actively engage in groundbreaking research and patient care. This environment not only enriches the learning experiences of our residents but also contributes significantly to the advancement of cancer care, ensuring that patients receive the most innovative and effective treatments available.
Resident Research Committee
Our resident-led research committee provides guidance and support throughout the research process with the goal of fostering a culture of scholarship among residents. The committee also offers didactic sessions that equip residents with the necessary skills to develop and implement successful research projects. Financial assistance is offered by the program for expenses such as payments to journals, travel, lodging, and conference fees. This support helps our residents present their research and findings to a wider audience. Additionally, residents are able to network with other professionals and gain further insights into their field.
Hackensack Meridian Health holds an annual resident research day to showcase the research efforts of residents throughout the healthcare system. Residents present their research findings, share their experiences, and network with colleagues and professionals from various fields. The event typically includes poster presentations, oral presentations, and keynote speeches from distinguished researchers and professionals. Hackensack Meridian Health's annual resident research day is an excellent opportunity for residents to gain exposure, recognition, and valuable feedback on their research projects.
We’ve had residents present their projects at national conferences such as American College of Cardiology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, CHEST, American Thoracic Society, American College of Gastroenterology, and American College of Physicians.
